BMW Sales Up 6% in May image

BMW reported May sales up 6% to 166, 397 units, from 156,954 units sold in May 2012.

BMW achieved a record May sales result and sales during the first five months of the year increased 5.8% to 770,025 units, also a record for this period. Sales of the BMW brand were up 7.8% to 139,161 units, with the BMW X1 selling 14,718 units, up 29.3% in May. The BMW 3 Series also continued to sell well with 41,811 units sold up 27.5% and the sixth generation BMW 3 Series sold more than 400,000 units since its launch in 2012.

“Our vehicle portfolio continues to be in strong demand and once again our sales volume rose to an all-time high last month. We expect further successful months ahead, assisted by the launch of exceptional new products such as the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo on the 15th June and the newly modified BMW 5 Series in July,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing BMW.

Mini sold 26,955 vehicles in May, down 2.1% and 117,694 units from January to May, down 1.5%. BWM Motorrad increased 14.2% to 13,081 units and 7.1% to 52,400 units during the first five months of the year.

In Asia BMW sold 46,838 units, up 13.4% in May, with Japan up 16.2%, South Korea 11.3% and China 14.8%. Sales in the US were up 10.1% to 31,174 units in May and 6.3% to 139,142 units since the beginning of the year. In Europe sales dropped 0.6% to 74,918 units, with Russia up 19.9% to 3,891 units.
