BMW to debut the X4 crossover concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show image

The new BMW X4 crossover will debut as a concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, the German carmaker has confirmed.

The new crossover will be introduced next year, following its debut in Detroit in concept form. “We’ve got the X6, X5, X3 and the X1, and we will have an X4 in the very near future,” Ian Robertson, member of the board of management at BMW, was quoted as saying by Auto Express. The X4 will be based on the same platform as the X3 but will be a four-seater with a more coupe-like appearance, in the same way that the X6 relates to the X5.

The BMW X4 crossover will most likely carry on all the engines from the X3, so expect the xDrive20i with 184 HP and the xDrive28i with 245 HP to be the petrol options, while the xDrive20d with 218 HP, the xDrive30d with 258 HP and the xDrive 35d with 313 HP will be destined for diesel fans.

In terms of price, the X4 will be more expensive than the X3 when it goes on sale in late 2013. Auto Express expects to see the X4 starting at around £30,000 (€37,000) in the UK.
