The German automaker has decided to present the long wheelbase version of the all-new 5 Series in China, naturally – where such models are highly praised.
The model premiering during the 2017 Auto Shanghai is going to be at least initially, offered only in the People’s Republic. The new 5 Series Li is coming out as the long wheelbase version of the premium sedan – adding 5.2 inches (13.3 centimeters) to the standard 5 Series, so the new Li version is just a tad shorter than a regular 7 Series. Naturally, all the extra wheelbase space is heading towards the rear, where passengers will enjoy some added leg room. BMW is delivering the new Li with the Luxury Line trim level, so it comes with all the bells and whistles: Nappa leather, Bowers & Wilkins audio system, two 10.25-inch screens mounted on the front headrests, and a tablet integrated into the rear armrest.
As far as powertrains are concerned, it will have three of them, all gasoline. Two 2.0-liter turbos packing either 224 horsepower (165 kilowatts) or 252 hp (185 kW), for the 525 Li and 530 Li versions, followed by the 3.0-liter turbo with 340 hp (250 kW) in the 540 Li. All three will be tied to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with power rooted to the rear axle. The new 5 Series Li can also be specked with an optional M Sport aerodynamic package for a touch of sportiness.
