BMW has officially pulled the wraps on the new M4 Coupe DTM safety car, which has been already shown with several occasions.
The new BMW M4 Coupe DTM safety car is based on the road-going model with the same name and it has received some interesting features, such as the BMW M Performance Parts, including the front splitter, the rear diffuser, the rear spoiler or the mirror caps, all of them made out of carbon fiber. Other “goodies” found on the car include the aerodynamic side skirts, the titanium exhaust system, the black grille, the KW coilover suspension system, the emergency lights on the roof, the DTM livery and others.
“Having decided to start the 2014 DTM season with a new challenger, in the form of the BMW M4 DTM, it was a logical step to have BMW M GmbH put together a BMW M4 Coupe DTM Safety Car. To lead the DTM field out in style, the safety car itself must also be extremely sporty. The BMW M4 Coupé certainly provided us with the basis to achieve this”, said Jens Marquardt, the BMW Motorsport director.
The cabin of the BMW M4 Coupe DTM has received the Schroth harnesses, the Recaro racing seats, the race communication system, the roll cage replacing the rear seats and the carbon fiber trim. Power is being provided by the same engine as in the standard car, the 3.0 liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder, with its 431 HP (317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. The unit is mated to an M double clutch gearbox.
