A new crossover is said to join the BMW lineup soon and it will be known as the X2.
After the new generation of the X1 has been unveiled recently, the BMW officials are now turning their heads towards developing an X2, which will be based on the new compact crossover. The model in question will be riding on the same platform as the X1 and it will basically be a smaller version of the X4 and X6, coming with the instantly recognizable sloping roof line. The vehicle will be coming with the five-door body style and it will be less practical than the X1 but more “chic”.
The interior design of the upcoming BMW X2 is expected to be imported from the new X1 generation and common things will not stop here because the carmaker will also use the same range of four-cylinder engines under its hood. Chances are the 3-cylinder units will also be added to the lineup within the first 12 months. The X2 is believed to get a high-performance version too, which will be taking aim at the Audi RS Q3 and at the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG. Transmission options will include the 6-speed manual or the 8-speed automatic and front-wheel drive will be offered as standard while the xDrive all-wheel drive will come as an option. The BMW X2 is expected to be previewed in concept form at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
