The brand new range-topping SUV to be signed by BMW, the X7, is expected to be introduced in 2017 or even in early 2018.
Rumors on BMW planning a new range topping SUV, which will be positioned above the current X5, have been around for quite some time now and the so-called X7 is being placed into the spotlights once again, this time with the help of a report coming from the Spanish media, which is stating that the model in question should be introduced in 2017 or even in early 2018.
According to our source, the development of the BMW X7 will start soon and this should be riding on the HPLC or on the CLAR architecture and it will be sharing a lot of its components with the upcoming Rolls-Royce SUV. The suspension and some other tweaks will be sourced from its smaller brother, the X5, and the model will also get rear-wheel drive and the xDrive all-wheel drive system, depending on the selected version.
As far as the engine lineup goes, this will include a large V12 engine, probably the 6.0 liter from the current 760i, which is rated at 544 HP (400 kW) and 750 Nm (554 lb-ft) of torque. The brand new BMW X7 will be getting a 7-seat layout and it is said to come with the most luxurious cabin a BMW has ever seen, putting the 7-Series into the shadows. Prices for this should start from 130,000 EUR and it will be produced in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in about 45,000 units annually.
