The upcoming X7 SUV has been caught on camera while it was being tested out, but if doesn’t seem like an SUV to you is because the body used is that of the next-gen 7-Series.
The German based automaker has chosen to test all the technical bits and pieces of the upcoming X7 and what better way to camouflage them then by using the body of a 7-Series. And not just any 7-Series because underneath all that wrap we can find the next generation of the model. The largest X model in the company’s lineup will probably share the platform with the next-gen 7-Series, but this is unconfirmed for the moment.
Considering the fact that BMW will start using aluminum and carbon fiber elements in the platforms, we can be surprised to find out that despite being larger, the new X7 might weigh the same as the current X5. As far as the competition goes, the future BMW X7 will be aimed towards models such as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class on the Old Continent or the Cadillac Escalade and Infiniti QX80 over-seas. The BMW X7 is believed to be officially introduced towards the end of 2015, which will make it a 2016 model year.
