BMW Z4 Coupe is no Bavarian – it has custom Dodge Viper heart image

Proof that you don’t need a huge vehicle to shove an 8.3-liter V10 under the hood is right here, in the form of this engine swapped BMW Z4 hardtop.

The “coupefied” Z4 was produced by BMW only between 2006 and 2008 and the owner could sign off into the sunset with a 215-horsepower (160 kilowatt), a 255-horsepower (190 kilowatt) version, or the rare and extremely satisfying Z4 M with 343 horsepower (255 kilowatts). But even the latter would have no chance against this engine-swapped Z4, which now has the brutish force of a Dodge Viper under the hood. It’s the 8.3-liter V10 from the second generation, delivering 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The exterior looks are almost inconspicuous due to the all-black finish – and if you want it you can have it from eBay, with the car’s location being in Saarbrucken, Germany, costing £49,500 ($55,600).

And because the only giveaway is the bright yellow roll cage, you might dismiss this car at first glance – due to the jet black exterior finish, OEM wheels and Audi R8-sourced brake calipers. If you get inside, you’ll notice most of the creature comfort components have been ditched or swapped for things more “race focused” – steering wheel, and what’s left of the door panels. With all that power, a 51/49 percent weight distribution and total weight of just 1,400 kilograms (3,086 pounds), 100 kg less than a standard Z4, no wonder the seller calls this Viper-swapped Z4 to be “brutal.”
