The new BMW 3 cylinder 1.5 litre engine will generate 165 HP and will be available in both petrol and diesel variants.
“Three cylinder engines are not a priority for the 3-Series. They will debut first on front-wheel drive models with an affordable price”, said Head of Developing Department in BMW, Klaus Draeger.
If we are going to analyse Draeger’s statement, we will understand that the 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engine will be available only with the 1-Series and Mini models, which come with front wheel drive.
According to the BMW offical, Draeger, models which will be equipped with the 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engine will be able to generate an impressive ammount of fuel efficiency and, in it’s top version, the engine will generate 165 HP.
The petrol version of the 3 cylinder engine will be known within the plants as N37 and it will have a potential of 55 HP per cylinder, the equivalent of the fresher 2.0 litre TwinPower Turbo.
The 3 cylinder engine will be produced in the United Kingdom and it will generate emissions of only 95 g/km.
The new N37 engine is not going to be very popular in the US automotive market, 3 cylinder engines being associated with extreme discount economy cars overseas.
