The BMW 7 Series top of the line model is expecting its official public debut in front of the worldwide audience at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt motor show and to get us stirred the Bavarian brand has released a massive gallery and additional details.
The massive picture gallery now has on location pictures of the new BMW 7 Series in Porto/Lamego, Portugal and the sixth generation limousine comes with almost forty years of successful history. The model will initially be available in the standard two-version body configurations – normal sedan and long wheelbase – features an evolutionary design and seeks to reestablish itself as the standard in the luxury segment.
The new generation already has on offer the M Sport package as well as the all-new Pure Excellence and BMW Individual Design Composition packs. Unveiled back in June, the limousine also comes with the latest enhancements provided by the BMW EfficientDynamics technology, as well as a host of BMW EfficientLightweight features – the model is now 130 kgs lighter than its predecessor.
New technologies include the extensive use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the passenger cell thanks to the technology researched with the BMW i subbrand.
There’s also a new standard Driving Experience Control switch that comes with an “Adaptive” mode to meet the driving style requirements and the eight-speed automatic even uses navigation data to assist the gear-change strategy.
The optional Integral Active Steering can also be combined with the xDrive all-wheel drive system, while the standard setup uses a 2-axle automatic self-levelling air suspension and the Dynamic Damper Control system. Ride and handling can be further enhanced through the optional chassis control system Executive Drive Pro that uses electromechanical anti-roll bars to control the body roll while cornering.
Those yearning for comfort will be treated to the electrically adjustable comfort seats, the Executive Lounge – active seat ventilation and massage functions are available to the driver and front passenger and the Vitality Programme is reserved to the rear seats. Technology enhancements include the addition of smartphone wireless charging, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, gesture control for iDrive, the BMW Touch Command multifunction control (a removable 7 inch tablet), the remote control parking feature or the Driving Assistant Plus and Surround View systems.
Under the hood there are three main engine choices: the 740i and 750i petrol units with 326 or 450 horsepower and the traditional 730d diesel offering churning out 265 horsepower. New to the 7 Series is the 740e plug-in hybrid that comes with the 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 95 PS (70 kW) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.
