Bonuses for Chrysler’s Hourly Employees

Chrysler Group LLC declared that its 26,000 U.S. hourly employees will receive their profit-sharing bonus check Friday, February 10th. The employees help restore the Auburn Hills automaker to profitability, and so their work will be appreciated through a base bonus of $1,500 before union dues and taxes.

“In 2011, we demonstrated that outstanding results can be achieved when we bring together clear objectives, strong motivation, and enormous passion,” CEO Sergio Marchionne said in the email sent to local union leaders. “Therefore, it is my pleasure to recognize you with this payment, which reflects the collective achievement of our company’s performance and your personal contributions in 2011.”

For the first time in 15 years Chrysler reported a $183 billion net profit and almost $2 billion operating profit, which helped the company pay back the loans from the U.S. and Canadian governments.

“It took an incredible team effort to bring about such remarkable results, and you should be proud,” he said in his message to the United Auto Workers Monday. “Significant progress can be accomplished when we work together and our goals are aligned,” added Marchionne.

Ford Motors, which has a base bonus of $6,200, declared that its hourly workers will receive their profit-sharing checks on March 14. Marchionne did not say why Chrysler bonuses were offered earlier.
