A new generation of the Maserati Gran Turismo sports car will be introduced sometimes in 2018 according to a recent report.
Maserati is trying to stay with its times and after introducing a new generation of the Quattroporte a few years back, followed by the entry-level Ghibli sedan, the first model with the trident badges over its body to offer a diesel version, the company is also planning a production version of the Alfieri concept, along with an SUV. But things will not stop here for the car manufacturer as it is also planning to introduce a new generation of the Gran Turismo. The sports car is said to be introduced sometimes in 2018.
This is rumored to ride on a different platform than the current variant and to get a choice of new engine sizes in various outputs, which will range from the small 320 HP V6 to the larger V8 engines, rated at as much as 520 HP. The model in question will only be offered as a Coupe because the company has no plans of introducing a Convertible too, despite this is appreciated in America but in the vision of Harald Wester, the company’s CEO, one major market is not enough to justify it.
As a small reminder, the Maserati Gran Turismo has been in production since 2007. This has been designed by Pininfarina and it is being put together in Modena, Italy. The model is offered as a four-seat coupe and a four-seat convertible, with a front mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout. The sports car is a two-door four-seat coupe sharing the platform of the Quattroporte V and getting parts from the Ferrari Scaglietti and 599 GTB.
