The United Kingdom is taking part in the Volkswagen celebrations for the Golf GTI’s 40-year anniversary thanks to the introduction of the new Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40 model.
This is more or less just a rebranded variant of the Golf GTI Clubsport, but the model still has credentials to show for: an aggressive body kit complete with new front bumper, refreshed side skirts, and a great looking rear diffuser. Other bits and pieces include a tailgate-mounted spoiler and custom 18-inch forged alloy wheels. Proceeding inside the cockpit the future owners will encounter Alcantara / cloth sport seats, red contrast stitching, and a golf ball inspired shifter. Other features include an Alcantara-wrapped sport steering wheel, “Honeycomb 40” trim, and special floor mats with red edging. The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40 is already up for orders and the model will set prospective owners back at least £30,875 – with deliveries scheduled to start during the summer and with just 1,000 units offered in the UK.
For the money the driver will get to command a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine churning out 265 horsepower – there’s also an overboost that temporarily raises the output to 290 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. The transmission duties are handled by a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed DSG gearbox and no matter the choice it will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
