Hyundai’s newly established premium and – Genesis – is diligently working towards establishing a fully fledged model roster, presenting now the 2017 model year G80, complete with a new Sport version.
The genesis G80 was first introduced to the public during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in January – and was for all intents and purposes just a renamed and rebadged variant of the Hyundai Genesis. Now the South Korean brand has decided to showcase the 2017 model year G80 – though the styling has mostly remained the same. The main story is actually about the new and spicy G80 Sport version, which differentiates itself due to the quad exhaust tips and the considerably more aggressive body kit – complete with sportier suspension if we take into account the reduced ride height. For now the company didn’t issue a press statement, but sifting through local media we found it will be packing the G90- sourced biturbo 3.3-liter V6 engine.
That means it will boot with 370 horsepower (272 kilowatts) and 376 pound-feet (510 Newton meters) of torque and could also deploy the G90 eight-speed automatic transmission. Since the massive G90 is capable of firing up its credentials in 6.2 seconds to 62 mph (100 km/h) – expect the smaller and lighter G80 to be able to drop that time to under six seconds.
