The American premium brand has decided to use the ongoing Chengdu Motor Show to officially premiere their first-ever hybrid model for the Chinese market – an XT 5 featuring a mild hybrid system.
The make is trying to entice buyers to this subtly greener version by keeping prices in check – it’s the same as the non-electrified predecessor, with the new XT 5 version arriving to completely replace the XT5 28T variant. It’s now called the XT5 28E and comes with two choices of trim – Platinum and Advanced, both using the exact same powertrain and also packing all-wheel drive. Cadillac says the new version has better efficiency, and also increases “driving agility and ride comfort specifically in four driving conditions: start/stop events, acceleration, cruising and braking.”
The powertrain includes a nine-speed automatic gearbox, with the mix delivering a lower fuel consumption of 29.77 miles per gallon (7.9 liters/100 kilometers). The electric motor kicks in when accelerating and is also used to recover otherwise lost power during constant speed cruising as well as braking energy at deceleration. The XT 5 also gets standard tenth generation OnStar system with 22 intelligent services and five years of subscription even for the base version – with Vehicle Diagnostics, Dealer Maintenance Notification, Automatic Crash Response, Remote Vehicle Data Update, and Remote Vehicle Control.
