With all the hype surrounding the Bentley Bentayga it’s easy to forget Americans have had for quite some time real SUV luxobarges – just that they didn’t wear such a noble branding.
For example we have the Cadillac Escalade – the go to vehicle for gangsters and singers alike – a model that commands a serious premium over any other SUV since it’s starting close to 100k in its luxury iterations such as the Platinum trim, and can easily go well beyond that figure when adding options. But even that isn’t enough for some – case in point this Carlex Design interior rework. Carlex calls its Escalade creation a “luxury cheeky gangsta beast” – and we’re inclined to agree – no sane person would want something like this.
Still, tastes are a matter of personal opinion, so we’ll give it the chance to explain itself. There’s a mostly black interior that features a mix of high-end woven leather and Alcantara. There are also some wood inserts on the steering wheel, dashboard, center console, and the door panels. Individual elements include Carlex’s logo at the 12 o’clock position and silver flakes for the wood trim. With Carlex being an interiors’ specialist, we’re pretty sure the Escalade has remained the same in the powertrain department – featuring a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
