BMW sees definite upturn in almost all car markets
German luxury carmaker BMW sees a "definite" upturn in almost all car markets after its automobile and motorcycle sales increased 14 percent in February compared with the same month last year. "In key sales markets such as the US, the automotive sector is showing encouraging signs of a gradual recovery," the company said on Tuesday. Used-vehicle value index rising !
Strong February sales made Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index to rise once again this month. The index stood at 118.1 last month, up from 117.6 in January 2010 and 105.5 in February 2009. According to CNW Marketing Research, independent dealers sold 561,431 used vehicles in February, an increase of almost 9 percent when compared with sales in February 2009, and Used-vehicle sales by franchised dealers totaled 584,972 in February 2010. February Sales Improve in Western Europe
Car sales grew 4.4% to 943,500 units in western Europe as strong demand in France, Italy, Spain and the U.K. offset a 30% drop in the German market, according to J.D. Power and Associates. The California-based market research firm says year-over-year sales rose 18% to 179,900 in France, 20% to 200,600 in Italy, 47% to 91,300 in Spain and 26% to 68,700 in the U.K. All four markets benefited from current or just-expiring government-sponsored scrappage incentives. India: Feb car sales raise 33% y-o-y
Car sales in India raised an annual 33 percent in February, as customers purchased vehicles ahead of the rise in taxes in the federal budget, an industry body said on Monday. Firms sold 153,845 cars in the month, compared with 115,505 units a year ago, data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed. Russian plant to build 100,000 Chinese cars per year
Russia's large auto plant Derways has launched a new line to assemble Chinese cars with an annual capacity of 100,000 units. The main Chinese brands for production at the plant will include Geely, Lifan and Great Wall, Inside Line reported this week. Alfa Romeo may return to N. America within 2 years
