Caterham, the British automaker only announced the launch of its SP/300R racer in January, but already it has sold half of the initial production run.
The company has said that 14 of the 25 cars built for this year have already been sold; just over one month after the car was unveiled.
“We are delighted with the way the car was received at the Autosport show in January. It’s the first new model Caterham has built for 15 years but, even so, we were bowled over by the reaction and the interest, which led to several deposits being placed almost immediately.
As well as individuals, several teams have placed deposits with Caterham to buy cars. The first team to order a SP/300.R was Staffordhsire-based Fauldsport, the reigning Caterham Superlight R300 Teams Champion, which placed deposits on three cars.
The SP/300R sports a 300 hp supercharged Ford Duratec four-cylinder engine, but the car only weighs 1,300 pounds giving it an even more superior power-to-weight ratio.
The suspension’s a full race setup with front/rear dual wishbones with pushrod dampers, adjustable height, and custom wheels.
