The newly-established joint venture between Chang’an Automobile and PSA Peugeot Citroen has announced that it will begin selling Citroen DS models in China.
According to the Beijing News, the DS3, DS4 and DS5 will arrive in China in the first half of 2012. Chang’an PSA president Eric Apode has confirmed that the joint venture is officially beginning to promote the DS brand in China, with the first imports expected shortly. Chang’an PSA will later start production in China of the DS models and will also handle marketing, distribution, sales and advertising for the DS series models.
Chang’an PSA wants China made vehicles to make up at least 50 percent of all of its sales in the country. It also wants to create a brand new, independent sales model for the DS series, according to officials from the company. DS models will focus mostly on large cities, with sales channels already ready for Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other big cities.
Starting from 2013, the Citroen DS5 will be built by Chang’an PSA in China at the Shenzhen plant. The two parties also plan to launch a new brand that will debut in 2014.
