Chevrolet has recently signed a 3-year sponsorship deal with US Soccer, becoming the official partner of the US Soccer Federation.

Last year Chevrolet announced that it was becoming the official automotive sponsor for the Manchester United team in Europe, but now with all the papers signed the automaker’s logo will be on the team’s jerseys for seven years beginning with the 2014-2015 season. The US automaker hopes that the partnership with US Soccer will boost its sales in the country as soccer here is really popular.

“Soccer is just growing so much here in the U.S. that it makes total sense to get in with soccer, ” said Molly Peck, director of Chevrolet advertising and sales promotions. “It is where our customer is. It reaches such a great group of demographics.”

GM plans to set up shops in sponsor zones at soccer events and games, where Chevrolet would offer soccer-related activities and promote its products. Soccer begins to attract more younger Americans compared with previous years, as this sport ranks second to the NFL in the US among people aged 12-24.

“Chevrolet has an impressive history as a global brand and we’re excited to begin this partnership,” U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said in a statement.
