The US automaker and iconic surf brand Hurley have partnered in time for SEMA to deliver a compact pickup truck designed specifically to fit the needs of surfers everywhere – read California.
Chevrolet knows that hippy surfers on the Pacific coast also like pickup trucks and SUVs so they came up with the natural fit – the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Hurley concept that seeks to recreate the ultimate beach-going pickup. First order of business was safely carrying the surf boards so the Hurley concept has a concept roof rack that can transport two surf boards. There’s also a Bimini top for the bed that delivers some shade and a rack in the bed allows for hanging your wetsuit to dry, as well as storage for water to rehydrate.
The Z71 Hurley concept can get the surfer anywhere thanks to a suspension lift, new 17-inch wheels with Goodyear DuraTrac tires, special off-road lights, and new running boards. Hurley and Chevy also worked on the seats – they are made out of ‘ventiprene’ – a breathable fabric not dissimilar from that used for wetsuits. “You’ll never worry about hopping in your vehicle with wet clothing,” says Hurley creative director Ryan Hurley.
