The North American based automaker Chevrolet, part of General Motors, has recently previewed the Sonic RS model, ahead of its 2012 Detroit Motor Show debut.
The 2012 Detroit Motor Show, or NAIAS as it is also known (North American International Auto Show), is one of the biggest automotive events of the year and the car manufacturer has chosen it to reveal the Chevrolet Sonic RS, the most expected version of the hatchback. The Chevy Sonic RS, or the Aveo RS as it will be known in Europe, is expected to go on sale in late 2012 and to be offered in a five-door hatchback body style, so no sedan will wear the RS badge. The engine powering the Sonic RS will be a 1.4 liter turbocharged unit with 138 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque (148 lb-ft).
Four exterior colors will be available for the Sonic RS, the Victory Red, the Summit White, the Cyber Gray Metallic and the Black Granite Metallic, and in the cabin, the model has a sports steering wheel, racing inspired flat-bottom design, sports seats and aluminum sports pedals. Even if the car manufacturer has revealed the Sonic RS ahead of its official debut, there’s no word yet on its price, trim levels, fuel consumption or performance, but all of those things will soon be known, once the model will be officially presented to the public at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
