Chevrolet Sonic SS might target Ford Fiesta ST
The North American based automaker Chevrolet is planning to develop a rival for the Ford Fiesta ST in the form of a Sonic SS, which will get a new engine and more power.
The Chevrolet Sonic RS doesn’t have a long history on the market and, with only 138 HP, it can’t be considered a hot hatch, but things are about to change because General Motors is planning to develop a high performance version of the model. According to autoguide.com, Chevrolet will develop a Sonic SS, which will be a direct rival for the Ford Fiesta ST.
Our source is saying that rather than using the same 1.4 liter turbo engine from the Chevrolet Sonic RS, which is developing a total output of 138 horsepower, the car manufacturer will fit the Sonic with a new 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbo engine, which will generate a total output of 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. This means that the Chevrolet Sonic SS will target the Ford Fiesta ST directly and it will also be more powerful than the competition which is getting 180 HP and 177 lb-ft of torque. The Sonic SS is also expected to receive updated brakes, suspension and steering. Extra details on the model remain unknown for the moment.
