Volkswagen has officially pulled the wraps off its latest creation, the so-called GRC Beetle, during the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, in a world premiere.
The new Volkswagen GRC Beetle is the creation resulted from a collaboration between Volkswagen and Andretti Autosport and it will compete in the Red Bull Global Rallycross series. The vehicle will be driven by Tanner Foust and Scott Speed and it will compete under the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross banner.
“Red Bull Global Rallycross is the perfect form of motor sports for a youthful, exuberant, and growing brand in the U.S. market. We’re excited to partner with Andretti Autosport, one of the great names in American motor sports, and delighted that we will be running the iconic Beetle in the series”, said Michael Horn, the VW Group of America CEO.
The Volkswagen GRC Beetle is taking its power from a turbocharged TSI engine which, according to the German based automaker, is producing more than 560 HP (417 kW). All of this power is being sent to an all-wheel drive system. Additional details on the racer are limited for the moment and will probably remain so, for obvious reasons. You can check it out in the photo gallery posted below, though.
