China: Audi to increase production by 2015 image

FAW Volkswagen is aiming to boost domestic production capability for its Audi brand from 300,000 to 700,000 vehicles by 2015, the Beijing News quoted CEO An Tiecheng as saying.

Audi models are made at Volkswagen’s car venture with China’s FAW group. The current facility is capable of manufacturing nearly 300,000 Audi cars per year.

According to the latest sales reports, Audi sold 140,699 cars in China, up 28 percent from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Audi will launch mild hybrid versions of its full product series next year. The full hybrid version of the next-generation A6L will be made in China in 2013.

BMW, the second-largest luxury carmaker in China, reported a 61 percent surge in mainlandsales in the first half to 121,614 vehicles.

The number includes 113,169 BMWs and 8,445 Mini cars.

Mercedes-Benz, another German luxury giant, registered brisk sales as well in the first half. ItsChina sales jumped 52 percent to 92,200 units.
