The Opel Astra-based hatchback will carefully follow the lines of the German model, though carrying different badges and will be used to complement the growing lineup of the American brand on the crucial Chinese market.
The Buick Verano GS has leaked in all its splendor prior to the official worldwide reveal during the 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show after the Verano sedan has already been out in the wild since the summer. That’s even as the European peers have not yet even set their eyes on the official Opel Astra sedan version. The Chinese bound Buick Verano GS meanwhile is an exact copy of the hatchback version albeit using a slightly modified front end – and that makes us believe the same treatment might be applied to the sedan version of the Astra coming later on to Europe. Meanwhile, we also know quite a bit more details about the Verano GS, who will be equipped with a new addition to the roster – the 1.5-liter SIDI turbo manufactured and developed by the SAIC-GM joint venture. It’s good for a maximum power of 169 PS at 5,600 rpm and has 250 Nm of maximum torque between 1,700-4,400 rpm. That’s enough for the zero to 100 km/h sprint in 8.8 seconds and an average fuel consumption of about 6.1 l/100 km.
While the leaked exterior picture might still be treated to a grain of salt, the interior has already been depicted as of last week and looks Xerox copied from the Astra K. Everything has been lifted from the European version, including the 4.2-inch driver information center and the Apple CarPlay compatibility.
