China: Ford sales down 7 percent image

For the first time this year, Ford China sales are down. According to the latest sales reports, Ford vehicle sales in China totaled 34,916 units in August, down 7% from the previous year.

For the January-August period, however, sales by Ford and its joint ventures rose 11% to 341,746 units, the company said in a statement.

The August sales figure represents an 8% increase from July, when Ford announced sales of 32,320 units.
The company added that sales at commercial-vehicle venture Jiangling Motors were “steady” at 14,497 units in August, without providing a year-earlier figure. Jiangling sold 14,009 units in July.

On the same time, Toyota Motor sold about 89,000 cars in China in August, up 14.9 percent from a year earlier,while Mazda continues to see its sales slip.

In the first eight months, sales in the country came to 526,000 units, up about 4 percent from ayear earlier, Toyota said on Sept 5.
