China: Ford's First 1.0-Liter EcoBoost Engine Rolls Off Assembly Line

Ford celebrated its first 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine which came off the assembly line at the Changan Ford Engine Plant located in Chongqing – China.

The first 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine built at the Changan Ford Engine Plant in Chongqingis another milestone for the US automaker which tries to meet increased demand for its EcoBoost-powered vehicles in the Chinese market. The Changan Ford Engine Plant is Ford’s third assembly plant which builds the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine was launched in Chongqing soon after the US automaker celebrated another production milestone: the 2 millionth EcoBoost engine. The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines manufactured at CAFEP will power the EcoSport and Fiesta vehicles built for the Chinese market.

The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine has received the highest-ever score in the 15-year history of the International Engine of the Year awards. It’s been the second consecutive year when a jury made of 87 automotive journalists coming from 35 countries voted Ford’s Eco Boost engine as the “Best Engine Under 1.0-liter.”

“Customers in China don’t want to sacrifice fuel efficiency for performance. With the EcoBoost technology, they don’t have to,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO of FordChina.

“The production of the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine in Chongqing offers our customers even more choice when it comes to advanced engine technology and delivers on our commitment to bring 20 new global powertrains to China by 2015, improving fleet-wide fuel economy by 20 percent.”
