The new Mazda3/Axela compact model and the Amzda6/Atenza mid-size model started this month local production in China, with sales due from next month.
The first to roll of the production lines was the bigger Mazda6 (named Atenza in Japan), which is manufactured through a joint venture with FAW Car Co. in a Changchun plant. The new Mazda3 is produced via the Changan Mazda Automobile Co in Nanjing.
The third generation Mazda3 already started production recently in Mexico and Thailand and is the third vehicle in Mazda’s recent lineup that adopts the “KODO: Soul of Motion” design language, after the CX-5 SUV and Mazda6.
“The reinforcement of our business in emerging markets and establishment of a global production footprint is one of the pillars of Mazda’s Structural Reform Plan, and the start of production of the Mazda6 and Mazda3 in China represents a giant step forward in our initiatives in this area. Our new-generation products adopting SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO design will enrich the lives of their owners, and help Mazda become a brand that makes a strong bond with its customers,” said Nobuhiko Watabe, Mazda’s China boss.
The Mazda3 compact model uses the brand new Skyactiv chassis and engines, using the technology to improve its efficiency, reduce the environmental footprint and offer more safety and driving pleasure.
