Chinese Automaker Qoros Will Unveil Its First Vehicle in 2013 image

Qoros, a Chinese-Israeli JV will unveil its first vehicle in March 2013 at the Geneva auto show.

The car, which hasn’t been named yet, will be a four-door sedan built in China and it will be unveiled in the country in April 2013 at the Shanghai auto show. The company said that the vehicle will go on sale in the second half of 2013, both in China and Europe. The car was designed by Gert Volker Hildebrand, who is best known for his work as design director at MINI.

“Our participation in the Geneva car show next March is confirmed. We will be the only Chinese automaker there,” Qoros public relations official Zhang Zhen told AFP.

Even if China has been the world’s largest auto market since 2009, Chinese automakers have begun expanding their presence overseas. Qoros is a joint venture between Chery Automotive and Israel Corporation and has been founded almost six years ago.

The company is building a new plant in China which will manufacture 150,000 vehicles annually, and could reach a maximum of 450,000 units. Chevy, which is one of China’s most important automakers, exports its vehicles to more than 60 countries and during the first ten months of the year it sold 150,000 vehicles, an increase of 22%.
