Chinese market to get dual clutch transmission from Fiat image

As per the reports, Fiat enthusiasts in China will get a dual clutch transmission option for the vehicles which are built by Fiat’s 50-50 joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group.

The group will make DCT box. It’s a 3-way joint venture equally owned by Fiat, Guangzhou Auto, and state-owned Hangzhou Advance Gearbox Group. Accordingly, the production job of this transmission will start in the year 2013, as HAG has said in their statement.

And for that 2.3 billion yuan (US $355 million) will be invested for the production of this new transmission. In its statement, HAG has also added – “the JV will be increasing its annual transmission output to 500,000 units.

By the end of the year, Fiat as well as the new assembly plant of Guangzhou Auto, which is under construction at present, will commence their operations, though with an annual capacity of 140,000 cars and 220,000 engines. As of now, the Fiat C-medium is likely to be the first product of the joint venture as they have planned, with some similarities of the second generation Dodge Caliber which is getting prepared for the debut in 2012. This product will be entering at first to the Chinese market under the badge of Fiat.

The current Dodge Caliber features a CVT. However, talks are also going on to add a 9-speed auto transmission for this new model that will be built in 2013. However, the JV is yet to finalize whether this feature will be offered to the global market or would remain as region-specific.
