The much acclaimed Chrysler’s Super Bowl commercial, entitled “Halftime in America”, featuring Clint Eastwood is not available on the company’s YouTube channel due to a copyright claim.
The company declared that it didn’t remove the ad and doesn’t know why it isn’t on the site anymore. But when one tries to access the commercial, the following message appears: “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by NFL Properties LLC.”
“The NFL did not file a copyright complaint about this ad with Google,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told the Free Press. “We have asked Google to reinstate the ad immediately. Google is looking into why the ad was removed.”
Anyhow, until the problem is solved the commercial can be viewed on the Detroit Free Press web site, on Chrysler’s media site (www.media.chrysler.com), but also on other YouTube accounts. A 30-second ad to be displayed at the Super Bowl costs $3.5 million. This means that the company shelled $14 million for the 2-minute commercial entitled “Halftime in America”, in which Eastwood gives a touching speech.
“It’s halftime. Both teams are in their locker room discussing what they can do to win this game,” he says. “It’s halftime in America, too. People are out of work and they are hurting. They are all wondering what they are going to do to make a comeback. And we’re all scared because this isn’t a game.” He says, “The people in Detroit know a little something about this. They almost lost everything. But we all pulled together. Now, Motor City is fighting again.”
