After Ford and Gm announced a series of hybrids, Chrysler will not stay on a death line, and will launch the 300 Hybrid in 2013.
2013 Chrysler 300 Hybrid will get a new 8-speed automatic transmission and most probably the hybrid system will rely on the company’s new Pentastar petrol V6 engine. There’s no other detail available on the car for the time being, but Chrysler hopes they pull it off better this time than their last attempt to make hybrid cars back in 2008.
Back in 2008, Chrysler built hybrid versions of the Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango hybrid SUVs. The company sold minuscule volumes before stopping production in late 2008.
“We will offer a hybrid variant of the 300 equipped with an eight-speed automatic in 2013,” CEO Sergio Marchionne said last week at the Detroit auto show.
Hybrids are slowly becoming more and more popular amongst luxury automakers.
Premium automakers like Audi and BMW are working to bring hybrids to market in the mid size segment, via 5 Series ActiveHybrid and A6 Hybrid, while Lexus already has an electrified version of its GS sedan – the GS 450h
