The French automaker has lately returned to its quirky design roots – as these spectacularly presented with ideas of iconic models – and we’re hoping for another interesting model to appear during the Auto Shanghai in April.
After losing the steam in its years around the last economic debacle, Citroen is back full force with interesting stylistic choices. Just recently, Citroën CEO Linda Jackson teased the new C5 Aircross on Twitter and we’re surely expecting the new compact crossover to bring interesting cues. According to the rumor mill, the model should make its first official appearance in front of the worldwide audience of the Shanghai Auto Show. The renderings depict a series model that is very much inspired by the Aircross Concept that was first showcased in 2015 – complete with the plastic moldings on the side doors that seem inspired by the “airbumps” on Citroën’s oddball crossover, the C4 Cactus.
The Aircross Concept was a five-door hatch with rear suicide doors, with a size larger than the Cactus – riding on 22-inch wheels certainly helped with that notion. It also had a plug-in electric hybrid powertrain with a total output of 313 horsepower. Getting the C5 Aircross moniker is huge departure for the brand in terms of its mid-size model, considering the regular C5 – a sedan – only lives on in China after flopping everywhere else. So, we can be certain the new flagship Citroen is going to be something else – and not a boring saloon.
