Citroen will launch a new flagship saloon to compete head-on with Mercedes’ S-Class, as well as the Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ. Citroen DS9.
To this end, the jaw-dropping Metropolis concept is going to be the basis of the design for the new DS9, that will most likely be produced in China, according to Autonews China.
The DS9 will be based on the Citroen Concept Metropolis. This concept proposes a streamlined, large and elegant car.
Citroen has a strong presence in China, and Chinese buyers don’t have the same hang-ups and perceptions about luxury automotive products as Western buyers. Thus, a 5.3-metre Audi A8 rival could quite easily carry off a Citroen badge.
At 5.3 meters long and 2 meters wide, Citroen DS9 it’s longer than a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class and wider than a Maybach. Impressive! The interior has not yet been shown, but we can imagine it will take some design cues from the C6 and other Citroen products, just with a touch of elegance and luxury. There will likely be some sort of voice activated navigation and an entertainment system with some rear seat luxuries like massage seats, a DVD player, and other private jet sort of stuff.
The car will be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its hybrid drivetrain utilizes an optimized 2-liter V6 gasoline engine and a 7-speed, dual-clutch electronic gearbox. At low speeds, Metropolis runs in Zero Emission Vehicle mode, with its electric motor developing a continuous 55bhp (40kW), peaking at 95bhp (70kW).
