The DS upscale models are on their way to becoming a standalone brand, but before all that is achieved, the French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen wants to establish the future design directions.
Now, Citroen has revealed the first details and pictures with the Divine DS concept, ahead of the model’s scheduled debut for October during the Paris Motor Show. With the carmaker claiming the concept is the “true expression of the brand’s DNA,” it’s rather clear the showcar is seriously hinting towards the future of the fast-growing upscale brand.
“Divine DS is an expression of our expertise. This concept car is the very essence of what DS is and what it will be. A perfect alliance between sophistication and technology. Unveiled just a few weeks after the birth of the brand, DIVINE DS perfectly expresses the unique personality of DS,” comments Yves Bonnefont, CEO of the DS Brand.
As usual, the marquee sways from traditional body styles and features another genre-bending concept – the Divine DS seems to be targeting the sporty hatchback segment, albeit with a definite luxury twist. There’s a huge grille up front, flanked by LED lights and the car makes do without the usual rear window, exchanged for a rearview camera that projects its images on a digital rearview mirror.
The cabin is definitely futuristic, with input from Swarovski and featuring four individual seats separated in the middle by the full-length center console. Details are scarce, but we can obviously see the silk, leather upholstery and carbon fiber trim. No word on the powertrain though in the press release, but Autocar reports the concept is animated by a 217 bhp (161 kW) engine and has front-wheel drive.
