Six decades after it was created, this 1958 custom Corvette – at the time an homage to the Sting Ray racecar – is getting ready for a storm of money from fans, which are getting ready for the auction action.
The upcoming 2018 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction is going to feature some pretty unique rides – for the example the first-ever Buick Regal GNX, or a very rare 1973 Corvette race car. Next to them will be a 1958 Corvette, which actually doesn’t look the part because it has been customized from top to bottom to resemble a C2 Corvette Sting Ray racer. Aside from being an interesting build it’s also a very exclusive deal – a mere six units were produced, and this 1958 Corvette custom was inspired by the 1965 C2 Corvette roadster.
It has been manufactured by Fiberfab, a shop that also delivered a unique quirk – this being the only example with… two headrests! Motivating the assembly is a fuel-injected 283 cubic-inch V8, linked to a four-speed manual transmission. This custom ride is also wearing the original body tag and VIN, and along with the official Corvette Registry entry makes it eligible for the Monterey Historic Races.
