In case you love movie and TV automotive memorabilia, you might want to check your account balance because the 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole from Magnum P.I. is getting under the auction hammer.
It’s interesting how all of a sudden two iconic Ferraris that were made famous by their TV apparitions during the late ‘80s are now surfacing at auction events. We reported not long ago about the 1986 Testarossa from Miami Vice, heading to a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. And now a rivaling Bonhams Scottsdale sale is having the equally lovely 1984 308 GTS Quattrovalvole from Magnum P.I. – yes the same one featuring Tom Selleck and his famous mustache. This 308 GTS has had just two documented owners since new. The original 3.0-liter V8 is also there, with a five-speed manual gearbox to send the 232 horsepower (173 kilowatts) – and it was one of just three Ferrari 308s used during the show between 1980 and 1988.
Back in 1988 after the show’s cancelation, Ferrari took home the car and repainted and serviced it – then its first real owner came from Walnut Creek, California, and that one sold it to the actual owner back in 1989. It has amassed just 36,000 miles (57,936 kilometers) on the odometer, and comes with a Tubi unit instead of the original exhaust. Early estimates go for anything between $150,000 and $250,000.
