The Barrett-Jackson auction event in Scottsdale, taking place on January 14, 2017, will have a special treat for Cobra diehard fans – the new Shelby Cobra Sebring limited edition replica.
Shelby American and Superformance have joined forces to create the four limited edition Shelby Cobras, each created in celebration of a particular past success at the Sebring 12 Hours and other endurance racing series’. These models will be exact replicas for the Shelbys that competed in 1963 and 1964, driven by Ken Miles, Dan Gurney, Allen Grant, and Dave MacDonald. They will be turn-key examples that can be acquired directly from Superformance. “We’re very excited to partner with Shelby and Baume-Mercier for the release of the special edition Sebring Cobra Roadster and matching watch,” said Superformance CEO Lance Stander. “The Sebring Cobras are extremely unique and we can’t think of a better way to commemorate Carroll and the iconic Shelby American team drivers.”
The four limited series will be comprised of just fifteen cars – 13 with fiberglass bodies, and only two of them featuring the same original aluminum construction. Four driver liveries will be configurable – Ken Miles’ red painted body number 16; Dan Gurney black body with yellow stripes and number 15; Allen Grant yellow body with black stripes and number 96 as well as Dave MacDonald black painted body with yellow stripes and the number 198. Each example also features a commemorative Baume & Mercier Shelby Sebring watch number with the customer’s specific Cobra CSX number, and the cars will use the period-correct cast-iron block with up to 435 horsepower (324 kilowatts).
