The French automaker is preparing something special for its motorsport fans in 2018, with the upcoming introduction of the new special edition Clio R.S. 18, the hot hatch getting an infusion of Formula One flair.
Unfortunately, this is a take on the “all show with no go”, albeit the latter part is not exactly true since we’re dealing with one of the world’s best known and most successful hot hatch series of all time. But in true, the limited-edition version doesn’t come with other than aesthetic modifications, the only hardware change possible being the optionally available Akrapvoic exhaust that’s also available on the standard Clio RS. Renault has a long-lasting relationship with the world of F1, last year the company celebrated no less than four decades of involvement, the special edition’s name being in direct reference to the naming scheme used in the queen of motorsports.
The limited-run model “Clio R.S. 18” is a direct reference to the upcoming R.S. 18 F1 – under all the F1 dress is a regular 220 EDC Trophy version, with a standard Akrapovic exhaust system for enhanced soundtrack coming from the turbocharged 1.6-liter. Styling changes include “R.S. 18” badges, a double-diamond setup on the roof, grey decals, a model-exclusive black theme for the front bumper, Sirius Yellow F1-styled front blade and sides as a contrast to the Deep Black shade and there are also a few modifications in the cabin. These include numbered door sills, a faux carbon fiber air vent surround, Renault Sport-branded carpet mats and a mix of Alcantara and leather for the sporty steering wheel.
