Commercial Vehicle Sales Down 12.4% in the EU in 2012 image

According to a recent ACEA report commercial vehicle registrations dropped 12.4% in 2012 and 23.4% in December in Europe.

In December sales of new commercial vehicles continued to fall reaching 125,825 units, down 23.4%, the lowest level since October 2009. Sales in the UK fell 15.5%, in Italy 20.3%, in France 21.3%, in Germany 24.7% and in Spain 34.2%. From January to December, 1,695,173 new commercial vehicles were sold in the EU, down 12.4% from 2011. The UK saw a fall of 5.7%, Germany 7%, France 10.3%, Spain 25.9% and Italy 31.7%.

Last month, sales of new vans reached 103,254 units, down 24.3%, with the UK down 14.2%, Italy 19.6%,
France 21.7%, Germany 24.3% and Spain 32.7%. For the January-December period demand for new vans dropped 13.3% in the EU to 1,377,283 units, with Germany down 6%, the UK 7.9%, France 10.6%, Spain 26.3% and Italy 32%.

In December sales of new heavy trucks dropped 21.7%, with France falling 16.4%, Italy 20.2%, the UK 21.2%, Germany 27.1% and Spain 39.6%. For the January-December period new heavy truck sales dropped 0.4% in the UK, 8.5% in France, 9.6% in Germany, 20.4% in Spain and 28.5% in Italy. The decline in the EU was 9.4% to 214,086 units.
