A new crossover will soon join the BMW lineup in the shape of the X2.
The new generation of the BMW X1 will be giving birth to a coupe-like crossover, the so-called X2. The model in question has been detailed recently in a new report, published by Autocar, quoting sources within the company. The new BMW X2 will be similar in design to the X4 and the X6 but it will be based on the X1 meaning that we should expect a compact crossover with a sloping roofline, which will be making it easily distinguishable.
“We’re finalizing the first prototypes now. They should be in action by the end of the month”, said a source within BMW to Autocar.
As we said above, the brand new BMW X2 will be riding on the same architecture as the new generation of the X1. This will be sportier and it will be featuring a 5-door body style. The sloping roofline will be distinguishable and it will be making it look similar to the X4 and the X6. The mechanicals and the interior design are expected to be shared with the new generation of the X1. The engine lineup will be borrowed from the compact crossover too and it will also include a 3-cylinder which will be highly economical, along with a four-cylinder turbo with approximately 300 HP, an attempt to tackle the Audi RS Q3 and the GLA 45 AMG. Units will be connected to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission and FWD will come standard with the AWD being offered as an option.
