Volvo and Polestar, its performance partner, recently presented a concept version of the 2012 Volvo S60 sedan.
The sedan features a custom 508-horsepower engine and other performance hardware to make this power usable. The concept was manufactured according to Polestar’s preferences, although the model will be bought by a client for $300,000 once all the promotional duties were done.
The model is based on the Volvo S60 race car which was seen in the TTA Swedish racing series. It is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine, which can be seen in the regular S60 T6 model. The engine’s output was increased from 300 horsepower to 508 horsepower, thanks to a number of reinforced internals and an enlarged turbocharger from Garret.
Besides the engine output, the drivetrain and chassis were also upgraded. A reinforced six-speed manual unit replaces the standard gearbox and the Haldex all-wheel drive system was tweaked. The car also features a carbon fiber diffuser, custom bodykit and a set of beefy Brembo brakes. The S60 is expected to reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
