Dacia Duster was named 2012 Scottish Car of the Year image

The Dacia Duster has recently won the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year award even if the Romanian SUV hasn’t arrived in the country yet.

Besides the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year, the Dacia Duster has also won the SUV category where the award of the newly-created “Budget Category”. The Romanian low-cost SUV was voted by a jury of local automotive journalists. The Dacia Duster will arrive in the United Kingdom in January, 2013, but in Scotland, the model will be launched in 2013.

Dacia has been named a world phenomenon after its sales have grown from 5,000 in 2004 to just under 350,000 in 2011 and it’s probably one of the most profitable acquisitions made by the Renault Group.

“From pretty much the outset it was apparent that it would be far from a one horse race to the finishing post for the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year. The previous 12 months have witnessed the arrival of countless new models and with almost every passing month there has been one which has caught the attention of ASMW members as being a possible winner of our ultimate accolade”, said the ASMW (Association of Scottish Motoring Writers) president, John Murdoch.
