Slowly but certainly, electric vehicles are taking up more and more parts of the Chinese auto market, and great things are expected to come out of the research and development quests taking place there.

One such example is the Denza 400 EV, which is said to come with a 400 km range – which is even better than what is expected out of the Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt. The Chinese auto market is the biggest in the world, but it’s only now catching up to the rest of the world in terms of fuel and emissions regulations. Because the country’s road offerings grew from thousands to millions in just a few years, regulations were very slow to catch up and thus allowed models to be extremely pollutant. Now, the Chinese authorities have taken notice – not really hard when your cities are covered in smog daily – and electric cars are being favored above anything else.

This means the Chinese electric car market is one of the most prolific and Daimler is looking to take advantage of the huge advances that are happening here. The Denza 400 is a joint development product coming out of the German company and local producer BYD – their collaboration firm being named BYD Daimler New Technology Co. Ltd. The new Denza 400 is an evolution of an already existing electric car, which was loosely based on the first gen Mercedes B Class. But with upgraded electric motor and control unit, as well as a battery capacity of 62 kWh instead of 47.5 kilowatt-hours, the Denza 400 now has a claimed autonomy of 400 kilometers (249 miles).
