The German based automaker Daimler is planning to develop an SUV version in the Smart range, which should make its way onto the market in a few years.
Daimler has big plans for the Smart brand and after seeing models like the ForTwo, the ForFour or the fun-to-drive Roadster, the carmaker is now getting ready to embrace yet a whole new vehicle. Rumors are saying that Daimler is planning to develop an SUV in the Smart range, which should become available to its future customers starting from 2016, if all goes well. The new Smart SUV will come with all-wheel drive, and this AWD technology might eventually be applied onto future models in the company’s lineup.
The new Smart SUV is supposed to become a production version of the ForMore Concept car presented back in 2005, and the model is expected to be based on the same platform as the second generation of the ForTwo. In some versions, the new Smart SUV will get all-wheel drive. Rumors are saying that the Smart SUV will be a direct rival for the MINI Countryman. Unfortunately we don’t have any more details on the Smart SUV / Crossover for the moment so we will have to wait for the carmaker to go public in order to find out more.
