The German parent of premium manufacturer Mercedes-Benz plans to take the fight to the top through a model offensive, which practically means they will out a new one every quarter.
Daimler’s CFO Bodo Uebber in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper revealed the bold product offensive.
“We are in good shape, ” said Chief Financial Officer Bodo Uebber. “We have until 2020 another 30 new cars in the pipeline, so one every quarter.”
As Mercedes still lags his two main competitors, Daimler hopes this product offensive will help them win back the Number 1 spot among the world’s premium manufacturers.
The business in China was also awarded by the entry at Beijing Motor (BAIC), which recently gave a new boost Daimler. The Stuttgart based company has secured a 12 % stake of the Chinese automaker for 625 million euros. It is the first time that a foreign carmaker acquires such a large share of a state-owned Chinese manufacturer. “We will also take care of its own brands of BAIC,” Uebber said. So far, the Stuttgarter lags behind Audi and BMW in China.
