Daimler sold 1.4 million passenger cars in 2013 image

Daimler Ag, the maker of Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicles, on Monday said it sold 1.4 million passenger cars in 2013 its best sales figures ever.

On the same time, the German based automaker said its annual production of over 1.49 million units is another record for the company, surpassing the previous year’s record.

““In 2013, we have taken a decisive step forward in our strategy for growth. Our model initiative is well under way. The new ‘Best Customer Experience’ sales and marketing initiative has allowed us to align ourselves better to the needs of our customers,” Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Marketing & Sales said.

Daimler invested more than 1.2 million Euros n the Rastatt plant where it builds compact vehicles, while in Bremen the Germans invested more than 1 billion for the preparations for the plant’s role as center of competence for the new C-Class. It also invested about 300 million in Romania at its Star Transmission subsidiary where Daimler builds different powertrain components.

In China, the largest carmaker in the world and the biggest market for the S-Class, Daimler plans to invest more than 4 billion in 2014 to expand local production as well as build a new engine factory. During 2014 75 new dealerships are expected to open.

Brazil remains an important hub for Mercedes after the company said it will start assembling C-Class and GLA vehicles for which a further investment of more than 150 million is planned for 2014.
