The Japanese based automaker Datsun has recently released the first two design sketches of its new model, the so-called K2, which will be unveiled in a couple of weeks.
The fact that Nissan has officially announced the revive of the Datsun brand, for emerging markets, just a few months ago, was already known, but what comes as a surprise is the release of the sketches with company’s first ever model after a long break, which should be officially unveiled in a couple of weeks. According to the car manufacturer, the new Datsun model is known internally as the K2 and it will be sold in emerging markets like South Africa, Indonesia or Russia.
“Datsun will bring competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new Middle Class in high-growth markets. The Datsun cars will be locally developed with the support of Nissan Motor Company engineers and stylists and will be locally produced”, said the Datsun boss, Vincent Cobee.
The first Datsun model will be based on the same platform as the Nissan Micra and it will also receive the 1.2 liter gasoline three-cylinder engine used on its cousin. The model in question will compete in a segment dominated by the Maruti Wagon R and the Hyundai i10. The Datsun K2 will be officially unveiled on the 15th of July and its sales will start in mid-2014.
