Datsun to develop 2,300 EUR car

Datsun is planning to develop a new cheap car which should go on sale in emerging markets for no more than the equivalent of 2,300 euros.

Datsun wants a piece of the pie in the emerging markets across Asia and the best way to attract new customers into the brand would be to produce a new cheap car. This is exactly what the automaker has planned and the rumor has been recently confirmed by the Nissan top executive for Europe said in an interview with Automotive News. According to the Japanese based automaker’s official, Datsun will produce a cheap car, which will have a starting price of 2,300 EUR (3,000 USD), which will compete with Chinese vehicles.

The all-new Datsun vehicles will be produced in Russia, at the AvtoVAZ assembly plant in Togliatti, 800 km southeast of Moscow, along with other models such as the Nissan Almera Sedan or the Lada. The new cheap car will use a modular platform shared with Lada vehicles but it will look different than its “sister”. The model will go on sale in 2014 in markets like Russia, India and Indonesia and eventually it will arrive in other markets across Asia.
